Jessica's baby quilts

Jessica sent me a box full of baby quilts for me to work on. So fun- I love quilting baby quilts. This one is so sweet; it makes me think of yummy lemon squares.

I c2c'd the 'lemon squares' and did a loop design in the sashings.

This one is adorable too. The feature fabric has nursury rhyme characters in it.

I did an all-over feathered swirl on it.

The back is perhaps where you can see the quilting a bit better. You can find these quilts and more at Jessica's Etsy site- Home in the Heartland. I'll be posting more quilts from Jessica soon!

Joyce's charity quilts

Joyce made a couple quilts she is donating to a local charity, so just do something simple she said.

So this is my something simple.  Super Giant swirls.

Each swirl is about 6 or 8 inches across.

This super bright flowery quilt got some of my swirls and flowers on it.

That's simple to me! Thanks Joyce!

Wanta Fanta :: DGS Haven circle

June was my month for my Do.Good Stitches circle and I had my circle mates make these Wanta Fanta blocks using scrappy blues and lights. It turned out so neat!

To quilt it I used my Curvit ruler to outline each blue area in a gray thread and filled in with ribbon candy. Then I went back with white thread and outlined the light areas and filled in with various sized swirls and pebbles. Quilting it took 4.5 hours.

I love it!

I added a scrappy 2.5 inch square border around the edge for several reasons.
A) to make it a little bit bigger.
B) To use up some of my overflowing blue scrap bin.
C) to help frame the quilt

Blue polka dot binding. (I usually cut binding at 2.5 inches, but realized if if I cut at 2.25, I would have just barely enough!)

Finished size is 72 by 57 inches.  Thanks Haven circle once again for coming through with the blocks for this quilt. Together, we make amazing quilts! This quilt has been sent to Redeemed Ministries in Round Rock, Texas.

Norene's log cabin

Norene made this log cabin quilt a while back and I had fun quilting this one.

I did a giant S-curve in the darks and pebbles and swirls in the lights. This allowed me to travel across the quilt in each area without having to stop and start.

Down the line.

A few shots of the back.

That's it! Thanks for visiting.

karen and marty's

Karen had me quilt up this jelly roll race quilt.

It's a masculine quilt in navy, grays and neutrals, so we went with a paisley design all over.

the back.

Marty made this 25 patch quilt using old fabrics from a friend that had recently passed away.

I did an all-over flower/swirl/leaf design.

Instead of regular batting, she used a thin cotton blanket. Actually I think it was a flat sheet- similar to flannel, but not flannel. That's a new one for me, but it worked out just fine and it has a nice thin weight to it.

Thanks ladies for the quilting adventures!

Selvage Table Runner

I completed one of my own projects recently with my selvages. I made a table runner. It's about 70 inches long and about 20 inches wide.

I started saving selvages several years ago because I had seen some really neat projects with them on the internet. So cut a whole bunch of 6.5 inch squares out of muslin and started sewing them on. A block here and a couple more there, they are kind of addicting to make once you get going!

So I kept all my blocks in my set of drawers, which my little 1 year old would take out and scatter all over the place. Every. day. So I eventually got tired of picking them up and thought I should just sew them together already and end this mess!

Once I had the layout decided, it went together super fast. I pressed my seams open--they are pretty bulky. I quilted straight lines along the selvages about every inch apart so it is barely noticeable.

So there it is. My selvage project is DONE! So why do I still have a drawer FULL of selvages??!

Linking up to the Selvage Along by Sparrow Lane Quilts. Yeah, if you think this table runner is cool, you should see her feather table runner. Pretty awesome!

Mary's baby quilt :: Double threading my machine

Mary made this adorable baby quilt for her newest granddaughter.

I did an all-over cury-Q with hearts design in a light gray thread.

She wanted me to put in her name and birthday on it too. She also mentioned maybe some elephants since her room is decorated with an elephant theme.

I did an image search for 'elephant doodle' and found something super simple yet cute that I could do. This is what I came up with- I think he's pretty cute!

Angela Walters had recently had a post about double threading her longarm, so I thought I could give it a try.   I thought it would make the words stand out more, so I Mcgyvered a way to double thread my machine. The usual thread cone is on the left, and the right side is my contraption I came up with. There was a hole in the handlebar there, so I hot-glued a wooden dowel into it. but the dowel was too tall and the thread got wrapped around it, so I put and old thread cone over it and solved the problem. I used a pair of pinking shears as my thread guide with a piece of packing tape to hold it in place.

A little silly looking, but Hey--It worked!!

A peek at the back.

Thanks Mary- I learned a few new tricks on this one!

Norma from Colorado had a couple of quilts for me to quilt. First was this Christmas star.

I used a red, white and green variegated thread and did a simple holly and loops design all over.

The back.

Next was this quilt--same block, different layout.

I did a feathered swirl all over.

The back. Thanks for choosing me to do your quilts Norma!
