Blue Batik Rail Fence

Patty made this pretty blue batik rail fence throw quilt.

I used my variegated blue-brown-cream thread on it.

I quilted lots of feathers on the halfshell with lots of swirls.

A peek at the back. Thanks Patty!

Dresden wallhanging

Pat made this lovely dresden plate wallhanging.

She wanted it custom quilted with the dresdens stitched in the ditch.

I filled the background with some fun swirls, flowers and things.

In the flowery corners, I did a large feather design. And since there's also some pointy feathers in the print, I did the same for the outside blue border.

The back.

Thanks Pat!

USA Flag panel

Cindy had me quilt up this American flag panel. The panel is from Timeless Treasures and measures about 24 by 42 inches.

I outlined the stripes with some ruler work and then filled the whole thing with a wood-grain pattern to go along with the weathered barn board look.

Cindy's plans are to frame it in a barn board frame and hang it in her local gas station/eatery for display. So the red borders she added were just for ease of quilting, and not a part of the finished, framed piece. So nice of you to think of me Cindy!

I used a light brown thread all over.

The back used is just a piece of muslin.

Wavy wood grain...

Thanks Cindy for a fun project!

Steve's John Deere Tractors

Cindy made this John Deere tractor quilt for someone named Steve. :) Being an Iowa farmgirl myself, (with green tractors) I had no trouble at all designing for such a quilt.

I put double bubbles in the black border, and large swirls in the first green tractor row. The next border got tractor treads. My favorite go-to border design for anything tractor related.

The next brown border was filled with a row of round bales.

The rest was filled with lots of echoing swirls.

The tractor treads were made by marking a chalk line down the center and some ruler work.

I love how the patchwork on it looks a lot like acres of farm fields.

Thanks Cindy! I hope Steve loves his quilt.

T-shirt Quilt in Red

Tis the season for T-shirt quilts! Joyce made this one for a high school grad.

This was a good sized one with lots of red.

A good candidate for red thread! They come around once in a great while.

I did my 'usual' to it. Outlining the shirt design, filling in everything else with paisley swirls, and adding some fun stuff in the large negative spaces here and there.

Thanks Joyce for another great t-shirt quilt!

Orange Charm pack Quilt

Norene, my Mother-in-law, made this quilt for my nephew with 5" charm squares.  So, I wanted to quilt it special.

My nephew is about 13 years old, so I wanted to quilt it as 'cool' as I could. :)

I went with a geometric design in the orange negative spaces, similar to the white star-shaped design in the print. The colored prints just got a double corner-to-corner to keep it simple.

The wide border got some more ruler-work treatment. It's nice when you can use the blocks to mark your way around the quilt.

And it's really nice when there is an even amount of blocks to make the same corner design in each corner. It's hard to tell, but I used a bright green thread for the swirl/pebble filler around the edge.

The backing features historical Colorado themed fabric to commemorate a special trip they made together to Denver for a hockey tournament.

Lots of time taken for ruler work on this one! But its worth it I think. Especially for family. :)

DNP Wallhanging

Collette made this beautiful Disappearing 9-patch wallhanging.

She used a lot of floral and paisley prints, so I went with an all-over feathered Paisley design.

I used a light gray thread throughout.

The red back. Thanks Collette!

DGS Quilt-Layer Cake Pop

I had my doGood Stitches group make these Layer Cake Pop blocks in bright colors last fall. Once I had all the blocks, I played with the layout a little bit. First in a random arrangement.

Then I thought, since I had about every color of the rainbow, lets try a diagonal rainbow order layout. Well, mostly rainbow order. The red, pink and orange are out of sorts a bit, but with the number of blocks I had of each, it made sense to arrange them this way.

Yep, that was the way to do it!

I custom quilted the stars and filled in the white background with lots of swirls, flowers, and other random things.

I marked the large colored squares diagonally with a chalk pencil. That was the only marking I did. The other star part I used the seam lines to guide.

I used up some leftover binding pieces and arranged them so that they kind of went alongside with the colors in the quilt. Another job well done Nurture circle ladies!

I had to get that quilt done and outta here because my turn was up again for March blocks. I decided to do another version of the Split 9-patch block, this time with cheery red, yellow, and bright colors. Color coordinated and scrappy. My favorite! My tutorial link for this block is in the tab at the top of the blog. My old Haven circle made the first version in black, blue, gray, and lights. I loved how it turned out!
