Fire Island Hosta

Barb told me about this quilt she had been working on. A Judy Niemeyer pattern. If you are not familiar with Judy's work, just know that her patterns are very fancy and involve intricate paper piecing, and usually requires a series of classes to learn the method of how to put the quilt together.  These are the types of quilts that win shows. 'Sure, I'll quilt it for you", I said. 😶

After much internet research, thread ordering, and a little bit of procrastinating, I decided it was going to be more fun than intimidating. As long as I broke it down to simple, do-able pieces and parts.

I pulled several ideas and elements from other quilters posts. Thank you! It's one of the main reasons why I keep up the blogging, to help others get ideas. Because I get inspiration from others.

Some ruler work, mixed with some free-motion.

In the purple background, I free-motioned various designs. Feathers, swirls, flowers, etc.

A few shots of the back.

Thanks so much Barb!

DGS-January blocks, Becki's blue stacked coins

These were my 2 blocks for do.Good Stitches back in January. We used 2.5 inch scrappy strips and they went together very quickly. Here is the tutorial. As you can see, I didn't' have quite enough of a couple fabrics, and filled in with the best coordinating fabric I could scrounge up.

Becki made another stacked coins quilt, this time with a blue checked border.
(there was brown #1, and a second brown, and, guess what, there's a couple more green ones yet to come too.)

These are pretty fun to quilt up, with the long blocks and borders.

It's hard to see the quilting, but in the large blue strips, I did a swirly flower border design.

I keep it simple in the 'coins' with meandering and double bubbles.

And, the back. I tried out a new to me design in the smaller outer border called 'braided wheat'
I like it.

Thanks Becki!

Joanne's Embroidered Hearts

Joanne embroidered and pieced together this fun heart block quilt.

I custom quilted it with feather borders, ribbon candy sashings, and loopdy loop cornerstones.

I outlined the hearts both on the outside and inside, and echoed the large hearts on the inside as well.

Little curls and little hearts for the backfill.

The back.

Thanks Joanne!

Norene's Batik Stacked Coins

Norene made this pretty stacked coins quilt using lots of batik strips.

I used a colorful variegated thread that had lots of the colors of her quilt in it. And it shows up nicely in the solid purple borders. I quilted a feather in the big border and circles in the little solid.

Ribbon loops in the sashings.

The stacked coins got lots of curls and circles.

A few shots of the back.

Thanks Norene!

Cindy's floral squares

Cindy made this neat quilt showing off some floral fabrics.

I quilted all over with lots of flowers, curls, leaves and circles.

Thanks Cindy!
