Joyce pieced this beautiful quilt for a friend who's relation had embroidered these lovely floral blocks.
This was the widest border I've ever done! 18 inches wide. Plenty of drape for sure!
Quilting in progress.
I had the quilt and backing for a while before it came up on my list. Then, I realized that my 96 inch wide batting was not wide enough for this quilt monster, so Joyce brought me a king sized batting a week later. Then, after I got it all pinned onto my leaders and loaded, I started looking at my thread choices. I really did not have a good match in my thread stash, (turkey red, bright pink, or black) so I ordered a couple color choices, and found the perfect dark burgundy-purple. Luckily I was able to zip the quilt off and work on another in the meantime with my extra set of zipper leaders. THEN, it was finally go time!
Joyce wanted to round the bottom corners, so she had them marked with chalk pencil for me. It made for a tricky design challenge for sure.
Once the dark burgundy-purple areas were quilted, I used a white thread for the embroidered blocks and light pink sashings.
I made sure the feathers on the inside border were going up the quilt since it was going to be displayed as a bed quilt.
You don't see too many quilts pieced specifically to be displayed for a bed like this very often. Or one with such a huge border either. The recipient loved it! Thanks Joyce!
