Lent/Good Friday Quilt

Paula made this gorgeous Lent/Good Friday quilt to be hung in her church last Lent season.

My creative juices were ablaze with my quilting interpretation of Good Friday.

I started with orange thread and quilted feathers radiating out from the cross.

Ruler work for the narrow double lines bursting out from the cross.
I stuck a pin the the center of the center square of the cross and tied a long thread to it. Pulling it taught, I used that thread as a guide for my straight lines to radiate from and as a place to mark my starting point along the edge of the cross.

Love and Light

I used a gold thread in the star blocks.

I wanted the red and the dark areas to represent chaos, uncertainty, negativity, and burdens; so I quilted lots of random and kind of ugly and weird designs.

Stones and earthy designs in the black areas.

A view of the back.

Paula was able to finish up the binding and hung the quilt last Lent season in her church. She said she got lots of great compliments on it. It is such a striking quilt! Thank you Paula for giving me such a special quilt to work on!
