Warm vs. Cool HST Baby Quilt

I made this baby quilt for a friend who is having a baby girl.  I had lots of fun picking out fabrics and arranging them into this pattern.  I started with 5 inch squares and matched a warm and a cool color and made 2 HST (half-square triangle) units.  Then I squared them up to 4.5 inches and arranged them until I came up with this pattern.  I thought I copy-catted Jeni's quilt, but I think I combined the warm/cool idea of this quilt with the layout of this one

And yes, as suspected, it went together much quicker than my super scrappy fragment blocks

This little quilt is next up to be quilted so I will have to post it again when it's all completed.  I have some fun variegated thread that I want to use on it...

Embroidered Flowers-Purple Edition

Carol's husband embroidered these panels and she puts them together into a quilt top.  He does it to help with his arthritis.  He does a great job!

I custom quilted it with meandering and leaves in the borders...

Swirly Q's around the block and outlined the flowers and leaves.  I filled in the corner areas with a big swirl as I went along.  I'd say it's pretty nice!

Antique 8-Pointed Star

Cindy bought this quilt top at an auction for $5!!  It is all hand-pieced and in fairly decent condition. What a bargain!  There were a few areas with some fraying but overall it's in pretty good shape.

I custom quilted these scoop-de-loops all over.  I figured out how to quilt the white areas all the way down without having any stops!  As for the stars- I could do 2 of them before I needed to reposition the machine, so quilting it went quicker than I thought it would.

Such fun, bright fabrics.

These were a couple of my favorite prints--the cowboy and the elephant guy and snake charmer.

And the back.  Hated sending this one back!

Mary's Birdies & Owls

No, this isn't a repeat.  The local quilt shop had it as a kit and this one is Mary's version.  The other one I did was posted here

She liked my little swirls so that is what I did.  Thanks for having me quilt your quilt Mary!

Basket Wallhanging

Linda made this wallhanging.  This was my first time quilting a basket block.

I did some custom quilting- feathers, meandering, loop-dee-loops...

And here's the basket.  I left the blue parts unquilted and used a dark brown matching thread in the basket part.  I think it turned out really nice without doing anything too complicated.

Cardinal & Gold

My sister made this beauty.  Using two fabrics is unusual for her.  She usually uses more like 500!  This is a wedding gift for a Iowa State Cyclone fan so it is in the school colors.  It says "Go Cyclones!" in a very elegant way I think.

For this one I did some custom quilting on it.  A feather border, feather wreaths in the center squares, scoop outlines in the gold triangles and circles in the gold squares.  And it's hard to see but theres a red border inside the HST border that I did some swirls in.

I think it turned out quite lovely.  This is pretty fancy quilting, at least for me it is!  I used Connecting Threads Essential Pro thread in a golden yellow color throughout.  OK I just looked it up-cornsilk is the color name.

Go State!!
