Becki's Framed Hexagons

Becki finally completed this quilt top she had started 40 years ago!!

She used white sheets and scraps of fabric and started hand sewing them together. At some point all those partial seams got too daunting and life got busy, and in a box is where it went for a looong time.

Until she retired and made a point to get this one done!  This time by machine.

Loading this on the longarm was a bit tricky. I pinned them onto my zipper leaders as best I could, leaving gaps between the blocks. I pinned and stitched the sides down as I quilted along. It actually didn't turn out too bad! It was pretty square to start with so that really helped.

It was fun looking at all the different fabrics from the 60's and 70's. I imagine most were left from various handmade clothing items. Some were cottons, flannel and polyesters.

I quilted a flowery geometric shape in each hexagon, ribbon candy in the prints, and c2c'd the little triangles. I made a little triangle template out of cardboard to help mark the hexagon centers with a water soluble marker.

There really was not much stopping and starting with these designs, but there was much traveling in the ditch to get around to where I needed to quilt next.

I really love how this one turned out!

The back!
Thanks Becki (aka Mom!). I am happy to report that she already has the binding on and this quilt is DONE and DONE. Finally :)

What is your oldest UFO?  Mine is 9 years old--a row challenge I did and still needs to be quilted! Maybe this will be the year??

Mystery and a Christmas quilt

Lois made these quilts- this one being a mystery quilt from our quilt guild. Instructions for a new block were handed out each month. Turned out really nice!

A swirly narrow border and feathers in the wider black border.

Swirls and feathers all-over in the blocks.

Here is a sweet Christmas quilt.

Curls, holly leaves and a few stars in this one.  Thanks Lois!

Baby quilt for Angus

My sister had a little boy last summer and of course I had to make him a quilt! I used a few of my 10 inch improv pieced red squares and made them into a large churn-dash block.

And I got all fancy-pants with the quilting. Much like these two I made before. Only this time I doubled up on the batting. Two layers of Hobbs 80/20.

One block had a couple white pieces in it so I quilted in his baby stats.

As I was doing the last bit of quilting, my son (6) wanted to 'help'.  So I let him quilt the red blocks.  I was nervous that he would venture out into the white areas, and he did a tiny bit a couple times, but I ripped those parts out and all is good.

I am happy to report that baby Angus likes his quilt and lays on it frequently.

I kept it gender neutral with lots of swirls and rows of large pebbles.

Pat's Child Artwork Quilt

How sweet is this??  Pat made this adorable quilt with printed photos on fabric of her granddaughter's artwork.

I filled in the orange background with flowers and swirls and leaves and whatnot.

I outlined SID each picture and quilted around each drawing and filled backgrounds in where it needed a bit more quilting.

I think the penguin is my favorite :)  Such a neat idea to showcase a child's favorite artwork!
 Thanks Pat!

DGS September blocks, Heart Twister

These are the blocks I had my Haven Circle make for September's quilt. I saw a quilt in a blog post that I just loved and thought it would be a fun and simple one to duplicate.  We used 5 inch squares to make HST units and arranged them into diamond shapes using orange, turquoise, pink, dark yellow and light green along with colorful light fabrics.  Stay tuned for the finished quilt!

Peg made yet another Heart Twister wallhanging.

She wanted it quilted just like the other 3 or 4 she has made already.  I think I'm getting the hang of this one now!

A large feather in the reds with a large heart with curls inside for the pink center.

Little curls with hearts for the filler.

See what I'm talkin' bout?  The backside.

Thanks Peg! Keep the twisters coming ;)
