Jan's Double Irish Chain with Stars

Jan made this beautiful Double Irish Chain quilt.

I custom quilted the two borders and filled in the pieced area with and overall half-feather design.

I used a matching dark red thread for the outer border and quilted a free-hand feather design.

The rest of the quilt used a cream thread. The narrow border got an undulating feather with a large berry/double bubble.

I drew the undulating spine first with a white chalk pencil.

The back.

Thanks Jan!

Katie's Drunkard Path Variation

Katie made this really neat Drunkard's path variation in green, yellow and teal colors. How cool is this layout??

I ended up using a sage green thread on it and quilted undulating curves.

Katie is the pieced back queen I think. ;)

Thanks Katie! Another amazing design!

Peg's Redwork Santa

Peg made this amazing redwork Santa quilt with her embroidery machine.

I decided to used white thread throughout the quilt top, so that my wreath design would stand out.

The embroidered blocks were outlined and backfilled.

The outer border got the same holly, ribbons, berries and evergreen boughs treatment as the blocks.

The red back.

Thanks Peg- Hope you enjoy it!

Katie's Applique, do Good Stitches August block

This was last months do Good Stitches block. A single 9-patch block using 6.5 inch squares, and adding an offset narrow white strip after cross cutting it apart.

It is my turn to be the quilter again for October, so I need to decide what in the world to make. Soon!

Katie made this amazing applique quilt. She is going to enter it into the Des Moines Quilt Guild quilt show that is going on the weekend of Sept. 28th, so the pressure was on to make the quilting show-worthy!

I started out by outlining the applique and filling in the background with lots of swirls, feathers, flowers, leaves, and bubbles. I quilted a medallion in the very center of the quilt.

Outlining was mostly freehanded, with the exception of the orange peel centers where I used a curved ruler that was just the right size.

I changed to a blue thread and quilted the two borders as well as the blue medallion parts.

For the narrow blue border I came up with a new design of two feathers and a double circle. I really love how it turned out!

A peek at the back. I hope it does well at the show Katie! Good luck!

MaryJo's Coneflower Garden

Mary Jo made this amazing coneflower garden quilt.

I custom quilted the outer pieced borders with a large feather in the dark areas, and c2c in the peach squares.

The rest of the middle was quilted all-over in a half feather design with swirls and leaves.

A petite 5 year old girl is there for scale. ;)

I used a light grey thread throughout the quilt.

I drew the undulating and curved spine with chalk pencil and free-handed the feathers to fill the space.

The backing.

A good look at the all-over design.

Thanks so much Mary Jo!

These blocks were for my Nurture circle for do Good stitches. A very striking and cool design, but I goofed up the little pink and green corners. They ended up a little lopsided, but it was too late to fix it, so off it went.

Marilyn's log cabin

Marilyn made this big log cabin quilt with some fun rain/rainbow prints.

I quilted all-over designs with swirly clouds and fun paisley swirls in a gray thread.

A peek at the back.

Thanks Marilyn!
