Swell Christmas

This was my second time quilting this Moda Swell Christmas quilt made by MaryJo.

She first had me quilt up the log cabin quilt which is the background for the Santa.

She then appliqued by hand the Santa with a layer of wool batting behind him.

She wanted some custom texture elements in the beard and white fuzzy of his outfit.

Some internet research helped with ideas for the facial features. Quilting faces is always a bit nerve wracking for me. You can ruin a nice face with some awkward quilting lines for sure!

I used a new-to-me wavy ruler for the mitten.

He turned out pretty cute! Thanks for this fun project MaryJo!

Snowflake- Auction Quilt

My 'Snowflake' quilt is completely finished and ready for the live auction for my children's school.

I acquired this small UFO from my guild's scrap auction and thought it complemented the quilt perfectly.  I quilted it up and made it into a pillow.

Ruler work in progress. It was a lot of advancing the quilt back and forth. I was actually wanting to do the whole white snowflake in ruler-work, but I got two rounds into it, got impatient, and decided that was enough and filled the rest in with pebbles and called it done. :)

I loved my 'Happy Christmas' quilt for last year's auction, but went with Snowflake so it was more of an all winter use quilt, and not just the Christmas season.

I used a blue variegated thread for the blue background.

I used a lot of blues from my stash, but did have to buy a few more for variety and to keep it in the right medium to dark blue shades and getting too turquoise. I'm not sad about having to buy pretty blue fabric at all.

I used a navy flannel for the back to make it extra cozy and warm.

I loved making this pattern! I would make it again in a heartbeat, perhaps in a different color, or combination of colors like the pattern shows. All scrappy of course!

And here is the big moment at the auction! There were lots of good comments on it, people really liked the pattern. It ended up going for $350 to the same person who bought my 'Happy Christmas' quilt last year. Not too shabby.  I have already pulled fabric for next year's auction quilt- a fall color scheme this time!

MaryJo made this fun quilt for a grandchild attending the University of Northern Iowa.

Lots of orderly negative space to have a little fun in.

Thanks MaryJo!

Living the Dream Quilt

MaryJo made this neat camping themed quilt.

These panels are called 'Living the Dream'.

This is my design wall with all of my Farm Girl Vintage quilt blocks all ready to be sewn together. I hope to quilt it sometime next year. It's been a long time in the making!

Joan's Birdseye

Joan made this beautiful version of Birdseye.

A pre-quilting photo. Boy is her piecing pure perfection! Every corner and every point is just spot on.

Thanks Joan!

Breast Cancer Quilt

Marilyn made this small quilt for herself as she undergoes chemo for breast cancer.

She wanted pink thread and I added a few words of encouragement in the mix.

Wishing you much healing and comfort Marilyn!
