DWR : Merry Christmas Mom!

Mom made this DWR quilt using her QCR and passed it along to me to quilt around Thanksgiving time.  As I struggled to think of a good Christmas gift for her- she has just about everything a quilter needs! -I decided to give her the gift of quilting.  It's like a quote I saw recently--What do you give your Mom when she deserves and island and all you can afford is a scented candle?

I searched the internet for some ideas on how to quilt this thing and this is what I came up with. I used my Sidekick rulers that goes with the QCR.  This center I did without any stops and starts.

I SID around all the rings.  I don't usually sid, because I'm not very good at it and I don't like how sloppy it looks. But this quilt really needed it so I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and went for it.  I think I did get better at it as I worked my way down the quilt, but I have no room for bragging rights!

I chose this c2c design in the QST's so that I could travel around to the center of the next pickle dish.

I'm really happy with the way it turned out!  A DWR is definitely on my bucket list now!

Oh. the back. I have a fun story about the back.

So I had the quilt out getting it ready to go on the frame when my son (4) wanted some scissors.  I was distracted by my computer and the next thing I know I hear a snip-snip. Like fabric being sliced. Well, my heart skipped a beat or two knowing this quilt was out floating around. And yep. He cut a big 6-8 inch circle out of the middle of the back. NOT COOL. I was SO thankful that it was the back and not the quilt top.  And that it was my Mom's quilt and not another (less amused) client's.

Luckily Mom thought it was "cute" and not a tragedy like I did.  When I texted her about it she was in Hawaii on vacation, so how mad could she get, really?  Needless to say my kiddo and I had a long discussion about scissors and people's quilts. And a lengthy time-out.

So now the quilt has a large patch built-in label and a fun story.
Ugh.

Merry Christmas Mom! We love you!

Yes, it is hard to get upset when you are on vacation in Hawaii! It's a fun story to tell so will probably keep it around for a while until everyone tires of the story, then maybe give it away. Who knows!?
